She has a special interest in minor surgery and has completed the Professional Certificate of Skin Cancer Medicine with plans to up-skill further. She is able to offer skin checks and can provide minor surgery services including biopsy and excision.
Dr Jamie Weir grew up on the east coast of Scotland outside Edinburgh, completed her medical studies in Aberdeen and had been working as a GP in Glasgow until her move to sunny Townsville in 2021.
On the weekends Dr Weir loves to explore the outdoors, hike, travel and keep active. Although her spare time is now mostly taken up with being a first time mum to her lovely baby boy.

She has a special interest in men’s health, sexual health and chronic disease management. She wants to encourage men to be proactive about their health by providing high quality comprehensive care. She prides herself on being approachable and non-judgemental but most of all, professional.

No, you don’t need a referral. Simply book an appointment with Dr Jamie Weir directly at Verve Men’s Clinic.
A comprehensive skin check typically takes 30 minutes, depending on your skin type, history and number of moles or lesions.
We also allow for 30 minutes for biopsies and excisions but this may increase, depending on the patient.
Dr Jamie may recommend a biopsy or excision, which can be undertaken onsite.
If required, our friendly reception staff can book this in for your after your skin check consultation.
If Dr Jamie feels that further treatment is needed, we can coordinate your referral to a dermatologist or local skin specialist.
Once the procedure is complete, you may have sutures and a dressing applied to the area.
Dr Jamie will then give patients a information leaflet to take away which has key information on how to dress and keep the wound site(s) clean.
We can also recommend consumables which would be best utilised for each wound site.
An initial skin cancer check appointment costs $215 with a Medicare rebates available to eligible Medicare card holders which our friendly reception staff can process onsite.
Excisions and biopsies will vary, depending on the patient and their presentation. You can ask for a quote for excisions at your skin cancer check appointment. Medicare rebates are also available for these appointments.

Yes we have a HICAPS machine in clinic which we can use to process patient claims, if your private health fund allows.
We don’t offer payment plans, but we do have ‘Afterpay’ in-clinic.
To access ‘Afterpay’ in-clinic, patients will need to have a pre-existing ‘Afterpay’ account.

Men are statistically more likely to develop melanoma and are often diagnosed at a later stage.
This could be due to men being more likely to be hesitant to seek advice when something crops up.
Regular skin checks can help detect issues early, which is also when treatment is most effective.
