What is PRP Therapy?
Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy (or PRP) uses injections of a concentration of a patient’s own platelets and has been used to treat several types of common conditions such as torn ligaments and tendons, strained muscles, and osteoarthritis. New applications are being developed, including in the treatment of erectile dysfunction.
How does it work?
Platelet-rich plasma consists of two elements: plasma, or the liquid portion of blood, and platelets, a type of blood cell that plays an important role in healing throughout the body.
They do this by releasing growth factors, which are bioactive proteins that initiate connective tissue healing and repair, promote development of new blood vessels, and stimulate the healing process.
The aim of PRP for erectile dysfunction is to help repair and regenerate the nerves and blood vessels that may not be working as they should and leading to poor erectile function.
